When logged in to the agent panel the main screen displays the open calls,
When I click on the closed calls button and need to go back there is no option to go back to open calls the only way to see it is to log out and back in to see the open queue.

That sounds very odd. The Open link should always be there. But you can always click your company logo to get back to the main list of Open Tickets as well.
