THE FUTURE OF OSTICKET

osTicket v2 is coming.

Enhancesoft, the creators of osTicket, have been working on a ground-up rewrite of the platform for several years. In March 2026 they launched next.osticket.com with detailed plans for the new architecture. Here is what it means for osTicket Awesome and the future of our project.

What’s happening

The osTicket team is building a ground-up rewrite of the platform. New architecture. New technology stack. Modern UI. Responsive design out of the box.

For over twenty years, osTicket has been the most widely deployed open-source helpdesk in the world. Version 2.0 is the biggest leap in the project’s history, and we think the community deserves to know what it means for them.

Why we’re excited

The original inspiration for osTicket Awesome was simple: osTicket was the best helpdesk engine on the planet, but its interface hadn’t kept up. We spent ten years fixing that.

Now the osTicket team is addressing those same issues at the foundation. Responsive design, a modern UI, and a cleaner codebase are all part of the v2 vision. These are things we’ve wanted to see in the core product for a long time.

But what excites us most is the new architecture. osTicket 2.0 is being built as a developer platform. The interface is decoupled from the backend through a projection model, which means third-party developers can reshape, extend, and rethink the user experience in ways that were never possible with v1.

And after a decade of working inside this codebase, there is no one better positioned to take advantage of that than us.

We have plans. We’re not ready to share them yet, but we intend to keep building on this platform for a long time.

What about osTicket Awesome?

This is the question we hear most: “When v2 comes out, will you still support v1?”

The answer is yes. Unequivocally.

We are committed to supporting osTicket Awesome on the v1.x line for at least five years from the date of any v2 stable release.

Enterprise organizations don’t migrate on day one. They wait for a platform to mature, for plugins to be ported, for edge cases to be discovered and resolved. Your v1 installation will continue to receive updates, security patches, and full support from us for years to come.

Nothing changes for your current deployment. Your license key works. Your support relationship continues. Your data stays exactly where it is.

When v2 is production-ready and we’ve had time to evaluate the architecture hands-on, we’ll build an osAwesome companion for it. Until then, v1 is the product, and we’re fully invested in it.

Timeline

osTicket 2.0 does not have a public release date. Development is ongoing and the team is working toward a release candidate, but no timeline has been announced.

We’re watching closely. When there’s something concrete to share, we’ll update this page and notify our subscribers.

In the meantime, osTicket Awesome continues to ship. 83 releases and counting.
